There are only 7 rooms at Mai Spa and Resort so it very exclusive, and many come here for the spa treatments alone. If you so wish, on the day of your arrival you will be given a complete diagnosis by a therapist in Chinese medicine. From this diagnosis your treatment regime will be devised. It could include aspects of acupuncture, ashi atama (meaning “leg and head” in Japanese), ayurveda (traditional Indian massage), chi nei tsang, herbal massage, qigong, reflexology, shiatsu (Japanese massage), Thai massage and yoga. Instructor Jean-Claude is on the staff and he has studied massage in many parts of Asia. As you would expect, the spa’s restaurant, Captain Skewer’s, is very much health oriented and can cook vegetarian meals. If all this detox sounds daunting, it is totally possible to stay here without going into rehab. But while some rooms have air-conditioning, there are no TVs, refrigerators or swimming pool. The garden has also been designed to promote relaxation. If you want nightlife and distraction, go elsewhere.
