Cat Ba Island is arguably one of the least attractive seaside towns in Vietnam, mainly due to a jumble of poor quality cheap hotels that have sprung up in the last few years. With 50 bedrooms, the seven-story Prince Hotel is one of the larger and better establishments. Even so, the decor, furniture, fixtures and fittings are mostly budget quality, rooms are small, and facilities are limited in comparison with its equivalent on the mainland.

Taking a ride on a car or train for two hours from Hanoi to Hai Phong, then on a high-speed vessel for another hour, you will arrive at Cat Ba Island, the biggest island (100 sq. km) out of the 366 islands on the Lan Ha Bay. It is a tourist spot, attractive for its natural beauty and wonders endowed by nature.
